Richard M. Savino, M.D. is a board certified Orthopedic Surgeon who returned home to Long Island to join Long Island Bone and Joint. He was on the faculty at Johns Hopkins University Hospital where his responsibilities included being a team physician for the Baltimore Orioles and the Johns Hopkins University athletic department. In addition he has served as a physician for the U.S. Open at Bethpage and at Shinnecock Hills.
His personal perspective on Orthopedics began in middle school with a radial head fracture and continued in High School with an ACL tear. Dr Savino received his undergraduate degree at Boston College where he majored in Biology and Theology and was the recipient of a student athletic trainer scholarship. He received his medical degree from The State University of New York Health Science Center at Syracuse and residency at Temple University Hospital, and trained in pediatric orthopedics at Shriner’s Hospital for Children. While a resident he won the prestigious Resident Bowl from the Philadelphia Orthopedic Society in 2000.
Dr. Savino completed a Fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at Johns Hopkins University hospital where his experience ranged from pediatric patient care to total joint arthroplasties. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, as well as the New York State Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons the Suffolk County Medical Society and the Medical Society of the State of New York.
He has been a member of the John T Mather Memorial Hospital Board of Directors and has served as President of the Medical Staff and Chairman of the Medical Board at John T Mather Hospital. He is currently the Vice-Chairman of the department of Orthopedics and is a member of the Physician Leadership Committee. He has been named “Man of the Year” by Blanca’s House for his recent medical mission to Nicaragua. Dr Savino has been awarded an International Faculty position with Maxx Medical Corporation and has lectured and trained surgeons in countries as distant as India. He also was appointed to a Bioterrorism task force to ensure Long Island physicians are prepared for the next disaster.
In April 2018 he was appointed Clinical Instructor in the Department of Orthopaedics as a member of the voluntary faculty in the School of Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Dr. Savino was featured in the Times Beacon Record Newspapers and the John T Mather Community News for specializing in Computer Assisted Surgery, and minimally invasive surgery and joint replacement. Dr. Savino also provides advanced arthroscopic procedures including being one of only a few physicians in the area performing Hip arthroscopic surgery and labral repairs. All of his knee arthroplasties are performed utilizing computer assistance to improve accuracy.
