John D. Hubbell, M.D. is committed to providing quality care in orthopaedics and sports medicine. As a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Medical Honors Society, Dr. Hubbell received a Bachelor of Science degree while attending Villanova University. He completed his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine where he continues to serve on the Georgetown Alumni Admission Committee. Following an internship in general surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, he completed his orthopaedic surgical residency training at St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center in New York City. He conducted research, published and presented papers focusing on trauma and sports related injuries.
Dr. Hubbell has extensive experience in sports related injuries since completing an Orthopedic Sportsmedicine Fellowship at Georgetown’s Nirschl Orthopedic & Sportsmedicine Clinic. He worked closely with and provided orthopaedic care to the Washington Redskins, professional baseball players and student athletes from Georgetown and George Mason Universities as well as many Northern Virginia high schools. During this fellowship, he had the unique opportunity to work alongside Dr. Nirschl, a leader in the development of treatment for tennis related injuries. There Dr. Hubbell treated players on the USTA circuit and was involved in the surgical treatment of a Wimbledon champion as well as a Super Bowl Quarterback. As a fellow, he published and presented papers on research relating to advancements in arthroscopic rotator cuff treatments and shoulder instability.
Currently, he treats college and high school athletes on the East End as well as provides Orthopaedic care for the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League. Dr. Hubbell was also selected as a PGA Physician for the 2004 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills. He has served as the medical director of the Bridgehampton Polo Tournament.
His Orthopaedic interests include the advancement in arthroscopic treatment of shoulder, knee and hip injuries. In addition, he has a particular interest in minimally invasive computer navigated knee replacements.
Dr. Hubbell is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and is certified by The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is also an active member of the Arthroscopy Association of America, The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and The Medical Society of the State of New York. He has served as the Chief of Surgery at Southampton Hospital.
